The principles of Unitarian-Universalism
Congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association covenant to affirm and promote:
- The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
-
Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
-
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
-
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
-
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
-
The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
-
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
The mission of First Parish
We are old and we are new. Gathered in 1637, we are a spiritual community that spans four centuries. We provide a place for a free and hopeful search for meaning and truth that considers all viewpoints. We stand today as a beacon of the courage, love, and perseverance of all our members. Our strength is our open-mindedness in a continually evolving world.
To live this mission we:
- Reach out and provide service to others in our community;
-
Recognize and honor our ancestors;
-
Nurture and grow our spiritual lives;
-
Express and share our love of family and friends;
-
Recognize our children as the future of our church and our world, and educate them in faith and community;
-
Ensure that our older members and our children benefit from shared experiences;
-
Work on behalf of those in need and become a force for positive change in the world through acts of social conscience;
-
Celebrate diversity of race, culture, and lifestyle.
