First Parish today is a small but growing congregation rooted in the rich history of Taunton but thriving in the modern Unitarian-Universalist faith. Some members grew up in First Parish.
Many came to the church after rejecting the creeds and dogmas of other religions, finding here a liberal religious home which encourages questions and honors reason and personal experience. Still others have come after years away from religion, now feeling the need for a spiritual base. First Parish Church celebrates diversity in all its dimensions, including race, culture, affectional and sexual orientation. What we receive at First Parish is an opportunity to find our own spiritual path.
Our church year runs from the Sunday after Labor day to mid-June. During that time, visitors are encouraged to come by any Sunday to experience our worship service, children's religious education program, and after-service coffee hour. Our Sunday morning services begin at 10 a.m. We meet in our Chapel on most Sundays, however beginning on April 4 and for the rest of this church year, we'll meet in the Sanctuary because many of us enjoy hearing the organ :)
First Parish Church is located on the corner of Routes 44 and 140 in downtown Taunton, across from the Police Station and City Hall. The Sanctuary entrance faces the Police Station (southwest end of the building). The chapel entrance is on the southeast side of the building. The entrances are shown here.
